Band of the Week

I've loved this band ever since my band in high school supported them before they got big. Later down the track they released a new album under the US alternative giant "Equal Vision" and moved overseas to greener pastures. They are back this week for Chrissie and are playing over at Gee Whizz, Gosford tonight which is why I believe they become re-worthy of this weeks "Band of the Week". Their wicked brand of prog-rock is very Mars Volta-esque mixed with enough catchy stuff to stick to your brain, a definite hit for anyone who plays guitar or even appreciates the finer points of music. The instrumental parts in practically every song are mind blowing and the vocals come very close to matching that of Circa Survive or Mars Volta. Check out their music on facebook @ Closure in Moscow Facebook or buy their latest album "First Temple" @ iTunes Store.

This week my sister alerted me to this little alternative funk/rock band out of Sydney, who have just been nominated for the "All Indie Music Awards" in Los Angeles, U.S.A. They've been winning battles and fans for a while now and playing shows that are bigger and better everday. They are crazy talented musicians, "blending elements of classic blues & rock" coming from influences like Hendrix, Zeppelin and Pink Floyd and would be enjoyable for any classic rock lover. They are playing the Gaelic Theatre with Major Raiser on the 10th of December so make sure to grab tickets and listen their music at Monks of Mellonwah facebook. Top pick and the song up for Indie Music Award is "Neurogenesis"

Conics |
My pick for Band of the Week this week on blife. is Sydney dance-punk outfit, Conics. I saw these guys this friday as the local support of Gold Fields at the Oxford Art Factory and for a band playing in Sydney City as early as 8.30pm, they killed it. A lot of their sound is reminiscent of the UK indie band "Foals" (one of my favourites) and they owned this sound very well. I checked out their Bandcamp page which has a few songs up for download and haven't listened to anything else the rest of the weekend.
Check out their "Habitat/Illuminate" EP which is also available for download at http://www.conics.bandcamp.com/
